Students hit dance floor at Rah! Rally
Student organizations lit up Lloyd Noble Stadium last night in the 2018 Homecoming Rah! Rally as they competed to see which group has the best moves at OU.
During Homecoming, student organizations team up to compete in a series of events throughout the week, and one of the most anticipated of these is the Rah! Rally dance competition.
In Rah! Rally, each group performs a two-minute routine based off their respective theme. This year’s overall theme was Homeward Bound, and the groups were asked to create dances based on places people call home. Homecoming Vice Chair of Judging Bobby Monaco said the judges looked for creativity and the overall incorporation of a group’s theme into the dance.
This year, Black Student Association snagged third place with their performance “District 12,” and Beta Upsilon Chi, Delta Gamma, and Phi Kappa Psi received second place with “Wonderland.” First place went to “Land of Oz” performed by the Housing Center Student Association, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and Lambda Chi Alpha.
Other themes included Gotham City, Las Vegas, Bikini Bottom, Jurassic Park, and Monster’s University.
The night also featured performances by the OU spirit squads and the Pride, the introduction of OU sports teams as well as the homecoming court, and numerous games to keep energy and audience participation high.
Many alumni were in attendance, and students swarmed the stadium to cheer on their friends and organizations.
“I love getting to watch all the teams’ different dances,” said Lily Blevins, a member of Sigma Phi Lambda, after the event. “I think everyone did a great job, and I feel very hyped up for the game tomorrow.”
2018 Homecoming Vice Chair of Communication Isha Jhingan said Rah! Rally is one of her favorite events because of how it brings different student organizations together. “Also, pep rallies are not necessarily a thing in college,” she said, “so it really great to have that opportunity in college to put it on.”
Rah! Rally may be a competition, but it’s more than that. It unites students in different organizations across campus as well as former students from around the world, and that’s something worth coming home for.
